Lakeland, Florida - Polk County Sheriff’s Traffic deputies are investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred in Lakeland last night (June 25, 2013) and resulted in one fatality. The following is preliminary information of the crash.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25th, a red 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck with a 12-inch lift kit installed on it was traveling westbound on Swindell Road in Lakeland just south of Walker Road when, according to witnesses, it entered a 90-degree turn at a high rate of speed. The truck began to spin and then roll, ejecting the front seat passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt. The truck then landed on top of him, and he was declared deceased on-scene.
The deceased victim has been identified as 19-year-old Travis Kinkade of Paul Buchman Hwy in Plant City. Travis’ mother, 37-year-old Brenda White of the same address, was driving. She was taken to LRMC with non-life-threatening injuries. Another passenger in the truck, 19-year-old Dustin Johnson of Peek Street in Mango, was also taken to LRMC with non-life-threatening injuries.
Speed appears to be a factor in this crash. Impairment on the part of the driver does not appear to be a factor.
